If you use your own bicycle

Get off the train at the railway station “Incupe” and travel trough the forest till you reach Rigas Street. After crossing the Incupe River, the road will take you on to the White Dune, Catherine's Lindens and the Sunset Trail. Afterwards you have a great opportunity to visit the only collection of ancient bicycles in Latvia, which is located at “Saulkrasti Bicycle Museum”. The museum offers also bicycle rent and general repair works. Museum address: Rigas Street 44a, open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. www.velomuseum.tk

 

If you choose to rent bicycles

Get off the train at the railway station “Pabazi”, go down Stacijas Street till Rigas Street. Turn left and 150 meters further you'll find the “Saulkrasti Bicycle Museum”, where bicycle rent is offered. Travelling 800m by bicycles in Riga direction, you can visit the White Dune, Catherine’s Lindens and the Sunset Trail.

 

On the way to Saulkrasti town centre, you cross the Peterupe River. By booking your arrival in advance with museum expert Dagnija Gurtina by phone +371 29498563, you have the chance to visit the garden-house of the famous Latvian writer Reinis Kaudzite.

In Saulkrasti town centre, at the end of Raina Street beside the sea, there is a parking lot where convenient access to the beach by bicycle is provided.

 

From the centre, passing the Saulkrasti open stage, the monument to the founder of the Neibade Seaside Resort and the Memorial House of War Minister General Janis Balodis (1881-1965), crossing Kisupe River, and passing seaside recreation complex “Koklites”, the road takes you to Zvejniekciems, where the Memorial Stone of Skulte Port is located. Across the Age River the road continues on to the Northern breakwater and beach of Skule Port.

 

Return to Riga is possible from the railway station “Zvejniekciems” (an asphalt road leads to the station), railway station “Kisupe” (countryside road), railway station “Saulkrasti” (asphalt road), railway station “Pabazi” (asphalt road) or railway station “Incupe” (countryside road).

 

The route is suitable for street bicycles.

A countryside road is travelled from the railway station “Incupe” to Rigas Street, as well as on the way to the railway station "Kisupe".

1. White dune

One of the most beautiful dunes of its kind in Latvia with great sight to the coast of Baltic Sea (Vidzemes Seaside). From the top of the White dune you can enjoy sight of the outfall of Incupe river - the place where river falls into the Baltic Sea.


2. Saulkrasti Bicycle museum

Collection of bicycles dates back to the 1977. The collection consists of technically most interesting samples of bicycle development history found in Latvia.

3.Sunset trail

From the White dune along the coast of the sea stretches 4 km long walking trail. Fresh air of pine-tree wood and marvelous sights of seaside is worth to be experienced!

 

4.Catherine's Lindens

The legend tells, that these lime-trees was planted by Catherine II, called the Great Empress of Russia.

 

5. Saulkrasti (Peterupe) Lutheran church

Peterupe church can be regarded as one of the witnesses of whole Saulkrasti town history forming process. The history of the church itself also is rich and full of interesting facts: for example, the present building of the church is fourth one since the foundation of it in Middle Ages.

6. R.Kaudzite (1839 – 1920) summer house

Museum established in 1991 and presents the history of the Saulkrasti town. Museum is located in small summer house. It used to belong (1913 -1920) to famous Latvian writer Reinis Kaudzite. Visits should be agreed in advance.

7. Nature park "Piejura"

Park of nature is located in Saulkrasti territory. Enjoy beautiful walks and sights of Vidzemes coastline.

 

8. Skulte port

Fishing and timber export port.

9. Memorial house of the general Janis Balodis(1881-1965)

House where the general Janis Balodis spent last years of his life. Visits should be agreed in advance.

10. The Monument for Neibade Seaside Resort Founder

It was erected in 1877 in honor of Karl fon Reitern, the baron of Ledurga, who founded Neibade seaside resort in 1823. Till WW 1 Neibade had been very famous for its recreation places not only among noblemen in Northern Vidzeme but also it became popular among aristocratic society from other parts of Russia Empire. Now the monument is being situated in the park of Saulkrasti open air – stage.
